A Cost-Effective Improvement to Wired Glass

Traditional wired glass was invented to provide fire resistance – not to improve safety. Wired glass actually breaks twice as easily as annealed glass, and when broken can lead to horrific injuries or death. Security window film is an extremely durable, completely transparent film that provides impact-safety by strengthening windows and containing shattered fragments. Safety film can be easily applied to fire-rated glass and is routinely used by manufacturers of fire-rated glass to improve their own products.

Contain Shards in the Event of Breakage

Security film works by applying an incredibly strong, nearly invisible, polyester film to one or both sides of a glass pane. The addition of security film will add shatter resistance to any piece of glass. But if the glass manages to break, the film will hold the broken shards together, preventing injury from fragments.
Security film makes gaining access through a window extremely difficult, and prevents access to glass shards, which could be weaponized. In a medical setting, security window film is often applied to pharmacy and nursing stations, as well as to the exterior windows of mental health institutions.
