Several of the main concerns around letting the sunshine pour in, are the glare, hot spots, and fading of furnishings due to the damaging effects of the sun. Preventing glare is important, so it’s critical to control the sun’s rays as they enter the building so that occupants aren’t bothered by excessive glare.
Window shades, like blinds or curtains do block direct sunlight, but in doing so they prevent the healthy natural light from entering the room, and also block out the outside view. People who work in buildings with drawn shades or curtains report less overall job satisfaction and studies indicate they have a lower performance than people who have visual access to the outside.
